Redefine Beauty

Your beauty is not defined by the one picture you post or the 400 you delete. We all know the drill, you’re out with friends, your outfit in on point and you’re having a good hair. You snap a couple pics, then snap a couple more, take a quick peak, snap a couple more and maybe a couple more just for good measure. You do a quick scroll through, favorite a couple and are feeling good, but it’s not time to really sort through them all yet. You get home and now it’s time to examine every single photo. Which quickly turns into, “my is eye squinty,” “my is smile crooked,” “eww you can see a pimple” and “my hair looks funny.” Now that half the pictures are deleted and 45 minutes have passed, your day is no longer about the sweet memories made or the laughs that were had, now you are scrolling on Instagram wondering how you can make yourself feel beautiful. But friend, it’s time to stop trying to make yourself feel beautiful and define what beauty actually is. When you have this idea in your mind that beauty is a certain size, weight on the scale, make-up trend or hairstyle, then you are never going to “feel beautiful”. Why? Because make-up trends and the numbers on a scale are always changing, and there is always going to be someone who does it better. But when you redefine beauty to what beauty actually is, being made in the image of God. You know that what you have inside of you is so original and so unique to the world that if you don’t be you then no one gets to see this beautiful side of God that he put in you. So next time you’re zooming in on every single photo, remember beauty is not an image you can obtain, it is the image that is already inside you. Confidence is beautiful. Joy is beautiful. Kindness is beautiful. You are beautiful.
