Our Calling

Sometimes the Lord speaks to us in soft, gentle whispers and other times it’s your mom elbowing you during church. This weekend as the pastor said, “the busier the enemy makes us, the less effective we are,’’ I’ll let you guess how He spoke to me. But even more attention grabbing than being elbowed, is how consistently this reminder has been popping up as I go through senior year, and I think it’s a reminder we can all use at one point or another. Whether we realize it or not, we are constantly searching for our calling, we take on job after job, join group after group and say yes to opportunity after opportunity searching for something to feel like we are fulfilling it. But sometimes I think we search so hard trying to find it, we miss how simple God made it. Luke 10:27 says “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” So maybe you don’t have to run around stressed, tired and overwhelmed with your plate so full to fulfill your purpose, rather you focus on the calling that is right in front of you, to love God and love others. If it was easy, I wouldn’t have been elbowed in church. So as someone who may or may not say yes to a few too many things, I get it. But as we start a new week, I encourage you to ask yourself, are you able to love God and love others the way you want to or are you too busy?
